About Us
Our Mission
As a high school organization, our mission is to raise money for the Xuan Phu children's shelter and other impoverished areas in Hue, Vietnam. To accomplish this, we organize fundraisers throughout the school year that are run entirely by our members. Since its establishment, Monta Vista Friends of Hue Foundation has expanded to 30 members, raised over $5,000, and made two club trips to Hue.
Some of our events/activities include:
-Monthly door to door fundraisers
-T-shirt Fundraisers
-Garage and bake sales
-Gift card selling fundraisers
-Concession stands (e.g. Cupertino's Annual Cherry Blossom Festival)
-Chocolate and candy selling fundraisers
-Raffles
-Mail-in donations
-FHF Socials

Club History
In the summer of 2008, MVHS sophomore Shunei Asao volunteered at the Xuan Phu children's shelter in Hue, Vietnam. Saddened by the poverty he saw and inspired by the children's perseverance through adversity, Asao (Whitman College Class of 2014) and fellow classmate Naicheng Wangyu (Yale University Class of 2014) returned to school to form a humanitarian club called Monta Vista Friends of Hue Foundation.
What is Hue?
Hue (pronounced Hu-ay) is Vietnam’s de facto “third capital city” due to its historical linkage and geographical location. Located in the center of the country, this ancient city has historical significance and a rich culture. Unfortunately, a major flood in the region in 1999 killed thousands, leaving many children without guardians.
